Two for New York. Three for Acupuncture Certification. Four With Chinese Herbology.

The groupings below are intentionally separated because a state licensing requirement and a national certification pathway are not the same credential.

New York Licensure2

NYSED-Listed NCBAHM Examinations

  • Acupuncture with Point Location
  • Foundations of Oriental Medicine

Applicants must satisfy every other current NYSED requirement. Passing examinations alone does not confer a license.

Acupuncture Pathway3

NCBAHM Certification Modules

  • Acupuncture with Point Location
  • Foundations of Oriental Medicine
  • Biomedicine

Graduates may be eligible to sit for applicable examinations; eligibility and passage are not guaranteed.

Herbal Specialization4

NCBAHM Certification Modules

  • Acupuncture with Point Location
  • Foundations of Oriental Medicine
  • Biomedicine
  • Chinese Herbology

The Chinese Herbology module is added for the herbal specialization pathway.

Continuing Education & Review Courses

Support Beyond the Degree Program.

NYCHP offers review courses through Continuing Education for NCBAHM examinations, Chinese Herbology, Clean Needle Technique, and the New York State Massage Therapy Licensing Examination. NYCHP is an approved continuing-education provider by NCBAHM, NCBTMB, and NYSED.

Disclosures & Accreditation Scope

Read the Scope Before Relying on a Credential.

These disclosures separate institutional accreditation, programmatic accreditation, certification, and state licensure.

Institutional Accreditation & State Registration +

New York College of Health Professions is chartered by the New York State Board of Regents and institutionally accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE). All three degree programs are registered with the New York State Education Department.

ACAHM Programmatic Accreditation Scope +

The Master of Science in Acupuncture and Master of Science in Acupuncture with Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization are programmatically accredited by ACAHM. ACAHM does not accredit the undergraduate BPS portions or the Massage Therapy program. ACAHM programmatic accreditation does not include institutional participation in Title IV federal student financial aid programs.

Certification Is Not Licensure +

NCBAHM certification is professional recognition; it does not itself authorize an individual to practice acupuncture or Chinese herbal medicine. Licensure and registration are state regulatory functions.

Practice Outside New York +

Massage therapy, acupuncture, and herbal-medicine requirements vary by jurisdiction. Some states, including California, may require different or additional education, examinations, documentation, or approvals. Students and graduates must consult the appropriate state licensing authority.
