The Beginning
From Professional Clinic To College
A professional holistic health clinic established in 1976 helped form the foundation for the school created in 1981 as The New Center for Wholistic Health Education and Research. The early curriculum connected massage therapy education with health sciences and clinical practice.
NYCHP may state that it established the first massage therapy degree program in the United States.
Program Development

The Massage Therapy curriculum was approved in 1981 and later developed into a college degree program. The Acupuncture program was approved in 1992 and expanded at the bachelor’s/master’s level in 1998 alongside the program historically described as Oriental Medicine.
